A STUDY OF REVERIE

2023-2024

I grew up in rural Pennsylvania, where my childhood felt like a constant interaction with the natural world—talking to trees, catching lightning bugs, hiding from storms, foraging in the garden, and keeping tadpoles as pets. This intimate connection with nature instilled in me a profound sense of belonging and unity that I lost when we moved to the suburbs of California. In my work, I seek to rediscover that lost connection, merging spirituality with the natural world while also exploring the disconnection that defines modern life.

Through surreal and absurd elements woven into everyday situations, I examine the ways in which our modern age distorts our perceptions. My work fluctuates between a world imbued with meaning and one that feels utterly devoid of it, attempting to bridge the gap we all experience in our day-to-day lives. By highlighting the absurdity of our separation from nature, I aim to illuminate the quiet longing for a deeper sense of connection that many of us feel.
